Low Energy Neurofeedback System

Huge Growth and Improvements

The growth of the knowledge of anything related to the brain in the last 10 years has been huge and wonderful! As one of the pioneers of neurofeedback, Dr. Barry Sterman, once said, “Getting information on neurofeedback is like drinking from a fire hose!” I know what he meant. I have tried to keep up with “what works best” during my 16 years of doing neurofeedback, dropping the older, less effective ones and picking up the new ones. Here are some of the ones that I believe are on top now.

Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS)

Otherwise known as LENS, this is a very different, non-traditional, and very effective way to facilitate amazing improvements in brain function. The LENS accomplishes these wonderful things despite the fact that the treatment process takes less time and is easier for the client than most other treatments. My experience in treating individuals with Traumatic Brain injury (TBI) has been very fulfilling and in most cases I have had to use nothing but the LENS. The LENS can also be effective with many other problems.

Eye Opening-Quote... In cases of TBI, neurofeedback is probably better than any medication or supplement… Richard Brown, Associate Professor of Psychiatry Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons New York, NY

Z-Score Training

Z-Score Training provided a way to train larger parts of the brain at one time. Nineteen electrodes are placed on the head to train practically the entire surface of the brain at once – and train several different things at the same time.

Prior to LORETA, it was possible to treat only “surface” related problems. LORETA is now being used to treat conditions that we could not LOCATE before – things below the surface of the cortex. The training used for LORETA is the same safe, non-intrusive treatment we have always used. It uses the same electrodes, in the same way. LORETA uses the 19 electrodes on the surface “above” (the same way a GPS uses satellites) to locate the sub surface area that needs to be trained. The only thing new is that LORETA can now locate the subsurface areas that are generating the problem.

This allows for the training to be more effective and efficient.

No, there are many reasons why it may not work in a specific case. First, there are many different kinds of neurofeedback. One type may not work in a specific case while another, if availible, will. Also some problems have a higher probability of being corrected than other problems. For example, in my experience, there is a higher probability of correcting Anxiety than Bipolar Disorder. I believe that if the neurofeedback is done by an experienced practioner, who does a thorough evaluation and has a number of treatment options, that MOST people will be helped significantly with MOST problems.
